Getting to Cunnamulla

Drive

Paroo Shire lies at the crossroads of two great Australian drives, the Adventure Way and the Matilda Way. The highways are now sealed, and unless conditions are wet, most places of interest can be reached by conventional vehicles.

MATILDA WAY: BOURKE – KARUMBA

This fully sealed 1812km highway stretches from the New South Wales border all the way to the Gulf of Carpentaria.


ADVENTURE WAY: BRISBANE – CUNNAMULLA – ADELAIDE

Now fully sealed to Innamincka, the 2088km Adventure Way follows the wheel ruts of the old Cobb & Co route from Brisbane to Adelaide.

Fly

Travelling to Cunnamulla is easy with REX Airlines, offering twice-weekly flights between Brisbane and Cunnamulla along the scenic Cobb & Co Flight Route. The journey includes stopovers in Toowoomba and St George in both directions, giving travellers a unique aerial glimpse of Outback Queensland.

Flights depart Brisbane every Wednesday and Sunday at 8:00am, arriving in Cunnamulla at 11:15am. Return flights depart Cunnamulla at 1:55pm, arriving back in Brisbane at 5:10pm.

Coach

Travelling to Cunnamulla by coach is easy with Murrays Coaches, operating twice-weekly services between Brisbane, Toowoomba and Cunnamulla. The journey travels through the heart of southern Queensland, with stops in Toowoomba and St George along the way.

Coach services depart Brisbane at 7:00am every Friday and Sunday, arriving in Cunnamulla at approximately 7:00pm. Return services depart Cunnamulla at 7:00am every Monday and Saturday, arriving back in Brisbane around 12 hours later.

Rail

Experience a classic Queensland rail journey aboard the historic The Westlander, travelling twice weekly from Brisbane across the Great Dividing Range to Charleville. Operated by Queensland Rail Travel, this iconic route connects with a rail coach service through to Cunnamulla.

The Westlander departs Brisbane on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at approximately 7:00pm, connecting with a rail coach in Charleville and arriving in Cunnamulla at around 2:30pm the following day (Wednesday and Friday).

Return services depart Cunnamulla by rail coach at approximately 3:00pm on Wednesdays and Fridays, connecting with the train in Charleville before arriving back in Brisbane at approximately 11:30am the following day (Thursday and Saturday).
