Like any ‘destination location’ the Paroo Shire in south west Queensland is awash with places for travelers to meet and experience the best of outback Australia. One such gem is the annual Noorama Picnic Races held in the Cunnamulla district.
With a history dating back to the mid 1960’s, the Noorama Races are a magnet for locals and visitors alike, delivering a day of excitement, entertainment and some fabulous horse racing. Established in 1964, the Noorama Racing Club brought racing to the Cunnamulla district with the first race meeting held in 1966. A large crowed turned out to see the 43 horses compete for a range of trophy prizes. The races have grown over the last 50+ years with entries from across Queensland.
So, whether you’re into some ‘fashions in the field’, live music, kids’ entertainment, fabulous food or the main attraction of the day, the horses, you won’t be disappointed. There’s no better place to meet new friends, share a few yarns, and learn about the history and attractions of the Paroo Shire than the track side bar overlooking all the amazing action and entertainment on offer.
Out the Back Australia published a wonderful YouTube video on the races and we recommend checking it out at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyc0gZpt9IM
