HOME OF THE EULO QUEEN
During the opal mining boom of the 1880s, Eulo was a thriving township alive with prospectors, traders and travellers. At the centre of its colourful history was Isabel Gray — publican, storekeeper, opal trader and local legend — affectionately known as “The Eulo Queen”.
Today, the iconic Eulo Queen Hotel proudly carries on her legacy. Stop in for a cold drink, hearty pub meal and genuine outback hospitality. With motel accommodation, powered and unpowered camping sites, and an attached general store stocked with supplies and great coffee, it’s the perfect place to stay awhile. While you’re there, take time to read the fascinating local tales and folklore displayed throughout the hotel.
TASTE THE OUTBACK
Eulo is also renowned for its award-winning outback honey. Each winter, beekeepers bring their hives to the region so bees can feed on the native Napunyah trees along the Paroo River. The result is a uniquely flavoured honey with notes of caramel, spicy butterscotch and pepper — a gourmet delicacy celebrated at competitions including Sydney’s Royal Easter Show.
Visitors can purchase local honey, skincare products and artisan gifts from the Eulo Queen Arts and Opal Centre.
EXPLORE THE ARTESIAN MUD SPRINGS
Just 7 kilometres from Eulo along the Adventure Way lies one of the region’s most fascinating natural attractions — the Artesian Mud Springs. Unique to this area, these bubbling mud mounds and open springs act as natural pressure release valves for the Great Artesian Basin.
Some mounds rise up to 8 metres high and 30 metres wide, creating an otherworldly landscape shaped over millions of years. Once known for the loud underground booms caused by escaping pressure, the springs remain a remarkable geological wonder and a must-see outback experience.
RELAX AT EULO MUD BATHS
For the ultimate outback wellness experience, unwind in the soothing Artesian Mud Baths at Eulo. Immerse yourself in naturally warm artesian waters enriched with mineral-rich clays formed from the nearby mud springs over millions of years.
The result is a relaxing and rejuvenating experience where visitors can soak, unwind and let nature work its magic in the heart of the outback. For bookings, call 0405 030 707.
