Yowah is opal country and the location of the famous Yowah Opal Festival that’s held annually in July.  A gem of a town boasting a permanent population of around 140 people that explodes into the hundreds at festival time, Yowah is situated a leisurely two-hour drive from Cunnamulla.

A welcoming community with a sense of fun, visitors can experience what living in outback Queensland is really like.

The famous opal festival is the key annual event celebrating the towns strong connection to opal mining and the regions internationally famous export.  Held over three days this amazing community driven event features competitions and displays of Yowah Black, Crystal and Light Boulder opals, great outback entertainment, music, and lots of food.

Whether you visit at festival time or not, a visit to Yowah wouldn’t be complete without a stress relieving bath in the Yowah Artesian Bore Baths well known to grey nomads, outback travelers, and locals alike.  Visitors with RV’s, caravans and campers are welcome with comfortable and homely accommodation options including cabins are available at the local caravan park.

Yowah is in the Paroo Shire and is truly part of the outback Queensland experience where you’re always welcome and you can Live like a local!
