It’s only natural on your outback adventure to visit the main towns and attractions, but if you really want to experience the essence of life in the outback then pop into Wyandra on your travels up the Mitchell Highway. Located half way between Cunnamulla and Charleville in the Paroo Shire, Wyandra boasts a population of around 116 with plenty of buildings and architecture from a bygone era.

Like many of the towns in the outback Wyandra was established as a railway settlement and provided water supplies for trains moving freight along the busy western line.  A welcoming community, visitors can experience what living in outback Queensland was really like in past generations with a visit to the amazing Power House Museum.  Housed in the former power house building that generated electricity for the local community, the museum is very much a walk-through time.  Follow the heritage trail around the town and cool down with a refreshing drink at the local pub.

There aren’t too many places over 1,000 kilometres from the nearest ocean that can boast about its very own sandy beach, but Wyandra is one of them.  A popular meeting place ‘the beach’ is located on the nearby Warrego River and ideal for a picnic and a bit of swimming to cool you down and break up the journey!

Overnight stays by RV, caravan and camping visitors are welcome at the local Wyandra Post Office, store and camping grounds.

Wyandra, it’s just another little gem in your outback Queensland adventure where you can Live like a local!
