Eulo Mega Fauna
The world’s largest wombat-like marsupial, Diprotodon optatum would have browsed and grazed through the mud springs of Eulo, where on occasion they got stuck, leaving their bones for us to find tens of thousands of years later.
Go Digging For Dinosaurs
Each year the Eromanga Natural History Museum organizes Megafauna digs in Eulo.
The megafauna dig for 2025 will be run for 2 weeks, with 1 week available to be booked directly through the Eromanga Natural History Museum and the other week to be booked as part of an experience with Australian Geographic that also includes a 5 course dinner and prep time in the museum.
You can spend a week with them roughing it in the Outback digging up the fantastic Megafauna and tiny Microfauna fossils on their Megafauna Dig Experience. For 5 days and 6 nights you’ll be able to get down and dirty in the mud digging up the fossils alongside their experts, enjoying the truly spectacular sunsets and fabulous food. Each week the group of six participants, 18 years and over only, will join their experts and landholders. All meals are included and with accommodation provided in shearer’s quarters (share facilities) this is the true back to basics experience that lets you find the true passion of the Outback.
The dig includes
·6 nights at the shearers quarters – twin share accommodation (share facilities)
·All meals (6 breakfasts, 5 lunches, 6 dinners, 5 morning teas, 5 afternoon teas)
·5 full days digging for megafauna working alongside ENHM field paleontologists and geologists
·Personal meeting with the private landholders of the megafauna dig sites locations
·Day visit to Eulo and the Mud Springs (time and weather permitting)
