Where can I stay, what accommodation is available?

We have caravan parks, cabins, hotels, motels, a low cost camping area and more. Please see our Accommodation Webpage for options

Do I need to book accommodation in advance?

Yes we would highly recommend it, although we are organizing an overflow camp grounds to be available for any last minute decisions!

How much does the festival cost?

All the music, circus workshops, lantern making and much more is free. The only costs will be for 3 adults arts or photography workshops ($60 each for 3 hours) or 2 children’s art workshops. ($30 each for 3 hours). Every other event is free.

What things are there to do at the festival?

We have 3 nights and 2 days of free live music, arts workshops, circus and fire twirling workshops and entertainment, a poets breakfast, lantern making, a light parade and light spectacular finale, book readings and signing with local authors, a charity fundraising arts auction, community markets and both a walking and driving trail to see arts, sculptures and some fantastic lighting displays.

What music is there at the Festival?

We have lots of different bands playing including The Hillbilly Goats, The Barleyshakes, Angela Easson, Rebelquinn, Will and Ben and more. Whether you like, country, rock, blues, folk or some good old aussie rock covers, we have something for everyone.

What else is there to do in Cunnamulla?

We have the “Cunnamulla All Aboard” 3d light and sound spectacular running every afternoon, the brand new Cunnamulla Hot Springs will be open during your stay to soak away all your cares and rejuvenate after a busy weekend. There are also plenty of historic and nature walks and trails and lots of photo opportunities. Add to this a day trip out to Eulo, Wyandra or Yowah to experience, mud baths, historic pubs, an outback beach or fossick for a famous Yowah Opal Nut. Check out our “Things to do” webpage.

Are the new Hot Springs open?

Yes they are! For all information on prices, hours and to make a booking (which will be highly recommended over the festival weekend, please see their webpage at cunnamullahotsprings.com!
The hot springs will also be holding live music on the nights of Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th April before the Outback River Lights Festival.

Is there food available?

Yes there sure is, from homemade wood fired pizzas, burgers, chips, fresh sandwiches and rolls, great coffee, fairy floss and much more and that’s just on site. Within 300m there are another 3 pubs, coffee shops, cafes, a bakery and much more all offering a variety of food.

I’ve heard Troy Cassar-Daley is playing at Charlotte Plains. Is this part of the festival?

Yes he is playing on Tuesday 16th April 2024, but no, it’s not part of the Outback River Lights Festival. His performance is being organized by Charlotte Plains and Queensland Music Trails. We would highly suggest though if you are coming out to Cunnamulla, come a couple of days early and join in this amazing event, spend a couple of days at Charlotte Plains and make the most of your outback trip!

How far is Charlotte Plains from Cunnamulla?

Charlotte Plains is 52km or about 37 minutes east of Cunnamulla. Not far at all! And if you aren’t coming out to watch Troy Cassar-Daley, you can still take a day trip out during or after the River Lights Festival to experience the world famous Charlotte Plains Station and artesian baths!

How do I get to Cunnamulla?

Drive, Fly, Bus or train! Cunnamulla is about 8.5 hours drive from Brisbane, 6.5 hours from Dubbo or 7.5 hours from Toowoomba.

Rex has flights twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays from Brisbane, Qld Rail run the Westlander Train to Cunnamulla twice a week and Murrays Coaches runs a bus twice a week, both from Brisbane.

Is this suitable for kids and dogs?

Absolutely, we are a family friendly event, with lots of activities to keep children of all ages busy. The festival area is also dog friendly, we just ask that dogs be keep on a leash at all times and all well behaved. It goes without saying please clean up after your pets and children! Both our caravan parks in town and much of the accommodation are dog friendly too!

What facilities are available at the festival?

We have food, toilets, seats, picnic areas, merchandise all within Centenary Park which is the festival area.

What facilities are available in town?

The town has all facilities you would expect in a country town, shops, pubs, cafes, food outlets, mechanics, hardware, doctors, a hospital, fuel, chemist, newsagents, post office, clothes stores and even a couple of beauty and nail salons!
