When ‘The Queenslander’ newspaper published its account of Eulo in 1924, the general store headed the list of local facilities. While this original building burnt down in 2011, the rebuilt general store maintains a tradition of community service tracing back to the town’s origins in the 1870s.
When the first account of the new township of Eulo was printed in 1881, it listed the five key services a place needed in order to qualify as a bush town.
These were a hotel, store, saddler, butcher and smithy – and Eulo had them all. Today while the saddler, butcher and smithy might be gone, the general store and pub remain. They underpin Eulo’s importance as the Paroo’s community hub.
