INDIGENOUS USE:

Used extensively for weapons and also for medicinal purposes such as poultices for open wounds, the leaves were used for aches and pains.

DESCRIPTION:

A medium sized dense tree with a rounded crown and drooping branches, grows to 9m. They like red clay or sandy soils.

BARK:

Dark and very rough.

LEAVES:

Dark green shiny narrow leaves that are spear shaped that grow to 18cm long, they are very aromatic when crushed.

FLOWERS:

White five-petalled flowers which are quite small borne in open clusters at the end of the stem. The flower, not unlike a citrus flower with a strong aroma that attracts insects. Valuable shade and shelter tree. Palatable as sheep fodder. Drought and frost tolerant.
